Now for Something a Little Different

I’m going to try taking this site in a slightly different direction. As much as I’ve enjoyed writing the blog entries here, I’ve gotten sort of tired of the format. As a writer, the last thing I tend to want to do is more writing. So, after a few months of brainstorming and planning, I decided to take the plunge and finally record my first vlog.

I may still occasionally post a blog entry, but I want to try this format for a while. So please check out the video and subscribe to my channel on YouTube. Future videos will probably be a little more interesting, but this is just an introduction. I’m also still figuring out how to use my camera and get the lighting right, so please bear with me.

Feel free to leave comments and questions either here or on the vlog. Future videos will appear every Wednesday.

Congrats Alana! This is such a fun change! I loved your video and can’t wait to see/hear what you come up with next 🙂

I also find haircuts SUPER awkward. My current hairdresser seems to understand that I like to have minimal chatting, which is wonderful. I think the only other solution is finding a friend who is also a stylist – win-win 🙂

Thanks, Carrie! I’m excited about this project.

Unfortunately I don’t have any stylist friends, but that would be perfect. Except it might be sort of awkward when they’re washing your hair. Maybe I just find everything awkward.

I don’t like to hold a conversation when getting my hair cut either. I know they are passing the time, but I’d much rather zone out and write in my head. 🙂 Congratulations on making the move into vlogging.

Yeah, I like just zoning out too. Thanks for the comment!

  3. How brave of you Alana to vlog. That would certainly be out of my comfort zone. Now I love getting my hair done and I don’t mind making small talk. But I’m a social person, even though I’m a writer. I know it doesn’t make much sense. Go figure. Good to see your smiling face! Take care and see you soon! 🙂

Thanks, Karen! Lots of writers are social people. I wish I were more social. I seem to be better at putting myself out there in my writing or even in a video. It’s the in person stuff that alludes me so much of the time.
